We had the first screening of the outstanding documentary "BLACK STREET" by Faolan Jones

Black Street

who travelled to Sierra Leone to make the film. The film follows "Black Street" - a group of displaced young people living in an area of Sierra Leone's capital Freetown. With the support of a local youth organization called AUCAYD a group of musicians from Black Street (called STREET UNIT) they are using music to transform a culture of crime and violence to a culture of creativity.

Faolan then returned to the UK where he approached Trevor Rose who runs the Community Recording Studio in St. Annes, Nottingham and armed with the support of some local musicians, including the legendary Scorzayzee, the first of a truly collaborative International recording project began. The finished music promo is included in the documentary - Filmed both in Freetown and St. Annes, Nottingham "Black Street" is a must see, inspiring piece of work that transcends cultural boundaries.

This festival's Local Heroes were delightful community artists Carly & Martin - based in Nottingham the pair work with all in our community, creating mini film gems and have recently completed a First Light project. They screened their work alongside an exciting animation workshop, and created a bang! ident for the main screening.
